CONCEPTUAL INQUIRY
In the research phase, we gathered data through an online questionnaire, interviewed people who consented on the questionnaire, and did a photo study to those who couldn’t do an interview.
INSIGHTS
Emphasize connections you can make through music
Promote the joy of discovery of new music
Build the relationship between your mood and music
Ideation
BRAINSTORMING
With the insight that we gathered from our conceptual inquiry, we focused our ideation on those aspects. We generated 60 ideas that seemed promising by using the Crazy Eights, eight ideas in eight minutes.
Iteration
DOWNSELECTION
We narrowed down the 60 ideas by sorting them into seven categories: discovery, gifts, explorative layouts, music & photos, VR/Games, discussion, and communal listening. With this data, we narrowed it down even more by picking three that we thought had the most potential and would eventually settle on the "Music Mapping Speaker" after feedback.
THE 3 CONCEPTS
Music Photo Album
Music Mapping Speaker
Music-Based Card Game
USER TESTING
After deciding on the Music Mapping Speaker as the concept we would be moving forward with, we held a participatory design workshop to get feedback from our target audience. We took them through five activities that helped us refined our concept.
WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES
Card Sorting
Prototyping
Interface Mapping
Show and Tell
Role-Playing
STORYBOARDING
To illustrate the interactions a user could have with the product, we used a storyboard to communicate how our product impacts the user and their relationship with music.
USER FEEDABACK
Two adults participated in our workshop,, which included testing three low-fi speaker models and a mid-fi prototype of Apollo’s companion app. Through this process, we narrowed down our general speaker design and gathered insights on what needs to be adjusted for more clarity in the app interface.
